I used to have a set of three square bottles that I could fill with sauces when inviting guests over for dinner. Unfortunately, two of the bottles broke and for the remaining bottle, the cork got lost. I love the shape of the bottle, so I decided to use metal pens and colored sand to upcycle the bottle into a beautiful décor item for a window sill.
Total Time: 30 minutes (drying time included)
Yield: one decorative bottle
Supplies:
- empty clear square glass bottle
- white and colored craft sand
- cork from wine bottle
- Giotto décor opaque metal pens: magenta; blue; gold and bronze
- quick-drying clear spray varnish
- sharp knife
Steps:
- Wash the bottle and allow to dry upside down overnight.
- Use the magenta and blue pens to draw spirals and squiggles on all four sides of the bottle. Alternate the colors ~ what you do on the one side in magenta, do on the next side in blue.
- Use the gold and bronze to add stripes and dots to fill the empty spaces around and between the squiggles and spirals.
- Color the top lip and neck of the bottle with the gold pen.
- Spray the bottle with a coat of varnish and allow to dry.
- Fill the bottle with different layers of white and colored sand.
- Use the knife to cut the cork to size and close the bottle with the cork.
