Buying Heavy Duty Clothes Pins?

April 24, 2012

spring style clothes pinsCan anyone tell me where to purchase good quality wooden clothes pins? It's very windy where I live in Canada, so I need heavy duty ones, with tightly wound springs, like the ones shown here:

My husband is in Maine for a few days, but is having trouble finding them. Lee Valley sells clothespins. They're good, but not as heavy duty as I'd like, because the springs aren't tightly wound:

Thanks!

It looks like the links don't show up live, so have attached a screen shot of the first photo.

Go online to a store site that sells specifically to the Amish; they usually carry really well-made items.

If all else fails use the rubber coated metal wire chip bag clips. They're a bit more expensive than regular clothes pins but they're sturdy and will last forever.

You can find them at a good price at dollar stores and often at Big Lots.

I found Lola 850 heavy duty wooden clothespins with 7 coil rust-resistant springs on Amazon, 50 pins per pack. They were out of stock at the moment, but it says they are on order. Lola is a common brand and can probably be found in Home Depot & similar stores, which would avoid shipping fees. Also, Amazon listed it as a "6-pack" for $11.77, which leads me to believe they only sell multiple packs, so this might not be good for you unless you don't mind buying 300 clothespins at once. It is eligible for Amazon Prime, in which case shipping is free.

I have found that if there is anything you need and a good hardware store doesn't have it they will usually order it. Here I find clothes pins at Big Lots, Freds, and Dollar General. Good Luck

I got mine at ACE Hardware a few years back but don't know if they have them or not now. Check their web site.

Thanks everyone! Although I prefer wood clothespins, I like the look of the clothespins posted by Deeli. And I like the suggestions of trying an online shop that sells to the Amish, and asking my hardware store to order them.

Checked out the Ace Hardware website. The clothespins they sell received a telling review from a customer:

"These things are nowhere near the quality of your grandmothers clothes pins. They easily fall apart. Not good if you have an energy efficient solar clothes dryer
BOTTOM LINE No, I would not recommend this to a friend"

Hi Deeli, what's the brand name of the clothespins in your photo, please?
Thanks.

Anlod, I honestly don't know of any particular brand name but you can usually find them locally for a decent price or can buy them online at Crate and Barrel (very reputable company) at a really good price and their shipping is really reasonable too. I checked out a bunch of online sites and Crate and Barrel was the #1 I would personally trust.

Even if they seem pricey I promise they'll last just about forever, actually, probably an entire lifetime :-) Here's the link if you would like to buy them online:

I bought cloths pins at Dollar General and they are flimsy, cheap, and smaller then the old style that I got at an auction. Im looking for the heavy duty pins because these arent going to last
