Keep straight pins in a prescription medication bottle. This keeps them out of children's hands.

Great minds think alike! I have done this for years.
This is where I store my needles in my sewing kit, which is an old folgers plastic container.
I keep mine in tupperware square round, with a lid. Also can put flat magnetics in the bottom of it to keep spills contained. Since I use about 500-1000 sewing pins at my sewing, I find using older pieces of tupperware are fantastic.
For those spills that take place, I have the magnetic wand..available at many stores. One sweep across the floor and it picks up all quickly. Also make the same sweep under my sewing desk to pick up what might fall on the floor there.
Another multi purpose dish is from the automotive store....a metal dish with a magnetic on the bottom. Meant for working on things with small parts...they stay put. I use this to drop my pins into when at the machine. Have one to drop the metal bobbins, into as well, if working on projects needing multiple colors of thread.
