Mom's Cherry CakeThis was Mother-in-laws favorite dessert to make. I haven't found anyone who likes cherries who doesn't like this cake and doesn't ask for the recipe after trying it. It is very unusual compared to other cake recipes.

 

Diet Cocoa SyrupThis recipe is from my husband's aunt, Norma Orme. This is fine for a diabetic person, as Norma's husband was.

 

Seasoned Tomato and Avocado WrapsSpread cream cheese over one side of each tortilla and equally sprinkle with parmesan, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Top with lettuce, tomato and avocado. Roll up and serve.

 

Pumpkin Apple MuffinsOne of my fall favorites - these muffins are moist and very tasty. They are also relatively healthy if you substitute in wheat flour and applesauce and omit the streusel topping.

 

French Fry CasseroleBrown hamburger; melt cheese into hamburger. Place hamburger-cheese mixture in the bottom of 9x13 inch dish. Place frozen French fries on top of hamburger and bake as directed on the back of the French fry bag.

 

Quick and Easy ChiliThis is a family favorite! It's cheap, easy, and delicious. Brown ground beef; drain excess fat and return to pan then add onion and cook until translucent. Add garlic and spices.

 

Cleaning a Glass Top StoveInstead of buying the expensive cleaner to clean my glass top stove, I keep a shaker jar of baking soda beside the stove and shake it on any spilled food. Use a damp cloth and a little scrubbing, then wipe clean with a towel and it comes up sparkling clean.

 

Black Containers for Hot WaterIn Alaska, you pretty much have to fend for yourself. I've been doing this for years, and I thought I should pass along this tip for free hot water, especially when the pipes are frozen (as they are here, a LOT).

 

Cleaning Out the Medicine ChestI got this tip from Hospice. Sometimes we all have expired medications, prescription change medications or left over medications from pass away loved ones. This nurse told me to dispose of them by adding them to coffee grounds or soiled diapers.

 

Make Your Own Almond MilkTo make almond milk, you need only about a cup of raw almonds. Make sure not to buy or use roasted almonds. You soak these overnight in pure water, drain, and put in a blender along with 3 cups of pure filtered or spring water and blend about 2 1/2 minutes.

 

Check Glass Recycling for Canning JarsYears ago I could buy mayonnaise and salad dressing in quart glass jars. No more, that's a things of the past. I just started making my own homemade mayonnaise with my Vita-Mix and wanted to keep it in a glass jar in my refrigerator.

 

Autumn Leaf GarlandAutumn-hued folded paper leaves are linked together to create a garland. Make a leaf and center leaf template from a piece of cardstock. Fold 11 x 6 inch piece of paper in half crosswise. Place the leaf template on the folded edge of paper.

 

Use Frozen Peeled GarlicI love cooking with garlic, but do not like peeling it. So my answer is to buy it in the bag already peeled. I keep the bag in my freezer and when I need garlic, I remove a clove from the bag.
