Vintage Star-Studded Christmas Gift Box

Vintage Star-Studded Christmas Gift BoxUpcycle an empty tea box into a beautiful vintage looking gift box. Decorate it with burlap, felt, and stars, and add a special touch to your gift giving. By adjusting the size of the burlap and felt, the same idea can also be used to upcycle cereal boxes.

A container of flour being stored in the freezer.

Store Flour in FreezerFreezing flour for 24 hours will kill any larvae, saving you a lot of work getting rid of pantry moths.

Scissors cutting through fine sandpaper to sharpen them.

Sharpen Scissors with SandpaperWe have all heard of using foil to sharpen scissors. I find they are much sharper and cut way better when sharpened with fine-grit sandpaper. Turn the sandpaper so the roughness is facing down, then cut long strokes all the way through so your blades are sharpened evenly.

Burlap placed over a bush to protect it during winter.

Protect Bushes During WinterI bought a miniature rose bush this year and want to protect it from wind and snow. I put some burlap over it and put some rocks and bricks down to anchor it.

A liner from the inside of a cereal box.

Save Liners from Cereal BoxesOpen them up, wipe them down and dry them. Use in place of waxed paper. They are especially useful cut into squares and used to separate hamburger patties.

Draw A Line for Ants with CoffeeIf ants are coming in a particular spot, draw the line - with used coffee grounds. If you put an ant in the corner of a box and then make a line with coffee grounds about an inch or two out, the ant will not cross that coffee ground line. They will die of hunger/thirst in that corner before they cross it.

Upcycled Calendar Christmas Wreath - finished wreath

Upcycled Calendar Christmas WreathI hate throwing away calendars from the previous years. I tend to keep the better pieces of large artwork from the nicer ones, then use the pages from lesser desired pages to do crafts. This is a Christmas wreath made of those pages.

A banana that has been finely diced.

Easy Way to Dice a BananaI often have peanut butter and chopped bananas in my oatmeal. I slice the banana in half widthways. Then set it upright and slice in half lengthways and then the same the other direction. Lay it down and slice width way again and it comes out in little fourths.

A bottle of bright nail polish.

Strong FingernailsFor stronger and healthier nails, soak for 3 minutes a day in a solution of 1/2 cider vinegar and 1/2 alcohol.

An umbrella given away at a store's grand opening.

Attend Store Grand OpeningsAmazing Savings just opened near me. To celebrate, they gave out umbrellas. You did not have to buy anything. This was not advertised, but I have had similar experiences in other stores, so I went just to see. Who cannot use an umbrella?

A Slurpee straw being used to remove lotion from a bottle.

Slurpee Straw Saver and CleanerA while ago, I saw a product on "Shark Tank" that was a tiny spatula tip on a long stick. It was used to clean out the last of the lotion in tall bottles. I was doing the dishes this morning and came across some Slurpee spoon-tip straws and realized they could be used for the same thing.

A large and small cupcake as part of a promotion.

Splurging on a Sweet TreatI follow brands that I like, for instance, Sprinkles Cupcakes on social media (Instagram/Facebook) and occasionally, they will post promotions like:

A frame with an easel back that has a loop to hang on the wall.

Hanging a Frame with an Easel BackI moved to a place where I don't have many places to sit photos. So I decided to hang some on the walls. This is a good example. Just make a yarn loop, tie it tight, and hang it around the easel. Make sure it doesn't come up too far but isn't too short, either.

A paper towel used to wipe cooking spray in a pan.

Stretch Cooking Oil SprayBetween chicken broth for stir-frying, silicone baking sheets and parchment paper, non-stick spray is rarely used in my house. Economy, however, is never obsolete. Then too, it's not always easy to get even coverage with spray.

Eggs placed on rocks to keep them upright while boiling.

Rocks To Keep Eggs Upright While BoilingI bought a bag of very small quartz-like rocks from Dollar Tree. I plan to use them for a craft project I have in mind. I found another use for the rocks before ever starting my project, keeping eggs upright while boiling.

Snow (Siamese Mix) - white cat lying on his side

Snow (Siamese Mix)We got him from my older brother's friend when he was 8 months old.

Miniature Wreaths - wreaths and silver snowflakes on silver tree

Miniature WreathsI made three mini wreaths to hang on the tree using mason jar lids.

Stenciled Tea Towels or Bags - finished towels

Stenciled Tea Towels or BagsI had some free eco-friendly bags and a simple tea towel that I decided to decorate. I will use them to wrap gifts for the holidays and not only save on wrapping paper (which wastes money and our resources), but will also be a pretty and useful gift for my recipients!
