How about incorporating a food fight into the party with some non-messy food item like popcorn? I bet that could be really fun. Send them outside. Count off the kids 1,2,1,2, put the 1's on one side and the 2's on the other and put a line in between them. Put on some music, have a couple of buckets of popcorn for each side, and they could either use their hands or those little dixie cups to scoop the popcorn, run to the line and throw it at each other. NO touching allowed, then you will be OUT and sitting on the sidelines! the first team to empty their bucket of popcorn wins!

If you can't do it outside because it is too windy or rainy, do it inside but then put on some music and the first team to clean up their area of the room (their side of the line) wins! Have prizes like, yummy popcorn balls, for all the winners.

Other food ideas - croutons or stuffing mix; water crackers, cereal; I'm sure there are others.

If it's hot and outside you could finish up by having a kool-aid, or "bug juice" fight where you fill those buckets with inexpensive drink mix and again use those little dixie cups (bathroom size) to scoop and toss the liquid at each other. Again, use tape or something to make a line they can't cross or they are OUT. Or you could make square boxes with tape on the grass that they have to stand in. Close enough so they can get really get each other with the food but not so close that they can touch each other.

Your daughter has an excitement for a fun social activity with friends! help her make that come true for her in a way that is fun but safe for everyone (as opposed to a wrestling food fight where everyone is smearing food upon each others bodies which I suspect is what she might have in mind and what you don't want to happen!)

You could also set up other food-related activities that would be fun, like setting up an ice cream sundae bar with all sorts of different toppings, or having them make pizzas. Give prizes for best looking, neatest, messiest, most colorful, most decadent, healthiest, etc. Prizes can be little bars of candy like what is handed out for Halloween. More important is not the winning and the prize, but being recognized for your creation.

Well, I would just say, "no, you are not having a food fight party". And if there is any such shenanigans at the party, instantly, shut the party down and send the guests home. I don't see any reason why she shouldn't have boys at the party, but if you fear it is because the boys are coming that a food fight is desired, then don't allow them.

Do not be swayed by any talk of "everyone is doing it", or stuff like that. In my opinion, a food fight is uncivilized and gross. It is wasteful and messy. I hear of children who have parties and ask the guests to bring cash which is then donated to a local animal shelter; I think that is a much better idea than a food fight!

I was also thinking that (regarding my post below), if you had an ice cream bar or pizza making station that it may end up they will smear the toppings on each otherwhat if you set up ground rules for that ahead of time just in case? Like you can smear each others hair, faces and arms but that is all.

So what if there is some messiness? Do it near the end of the party and send them home to clean up :-) Be sure you let the parents know there may be some of that going on!

Love the outdoor popcorn food fight idea! Popcorn is inexpensive and biodegradable! The cereal is also good, but more expensive. You should let the boys come. Just put a limit on the number of kids, or you will have problems ...that age, they get really hyper!

I think you should just trust her and if you can't just watch over her just make sure there is an even amount of girls and boys
