My daughter's birthday is in winter time and she doesn't want to go shopping or have a big dance kind of party. She just wants to do something with a few of her friends. I want to celebrate her birthday in a way she won't forget, but she doesn't want anything too big, any ideas?

Maybe you can find a way to compromise but my guess is she may resent having an all out birthday bash since that's not what she wants....one that she may want to forget rather than remember if she's really opposed.
From experience: I was asked if I'd like this or that for special occasions and was given what I said I didn't want anyways. When I realized it didn't really matter what I thought, they were going to do whatever they wanted anyways, it seemed like it was more for them than for me. Nice gifts but the relationship communication meant nothing.
