After the holiday's everyone seems to be in a low mood because there isn't much to do or the let down the holidays are over. Why not host an after holiday ball at your home. You can tell people they don't need to dress up fancy, but tell them they must wear a mask. Do a dance party and have a table set up for food and drinks.
Have a spa party.You can get your supplies from the dollar store.Fill up container full of facials,nail polish,wash clothes etc.You could have a movie night.
I am a huge fan of cooking parties.
You could do a cooking party--like the show Chopped Junior (see the video):

This could be so fun with birthday food themed basket items--like candy, cake icing, etc.
The budget friendly part for you and your family is the food is both the entertainment and the food for the party.
It works for most groups sizes and if you have a boy/girl party it works or if it is all of one gender it works.
It can be a lot of fun!!
