Silver Post Medal for All Time! 254 Posts Here is the birthday hat and badge I made for my son's first birthday.
I wanted him to have a special hat for his very first birthday
Total Time: 1 hour
Supplies:
- 2 sheets of grey felt
- 1 sheet of yellow felt
- 1 paper birthday hat
- small white pom pons
- pom pom trim
- precut felt numbers
- pin back or diaper pin
- hot glue
- scissors
- pen
Steps:
- Here is the birthday hat and pin I made for my son's first birthday.
- For the hat, I covered a paper birthday hat, that I got from the dollar store, with felt. Then, from the leftover felt, I cut 5, 2 inch strips in 2 different colors. Next, I hot glued pom poms to one side of each strip. I gathered them all together, alternating colors. Once they were even, I glued the ends together. After that, I put them into the top of the hat and glued them in place. Next, I added a trim of pom poms to the bottom of the hat. Last I cut two long strips of yellow felt, and glued them on each side of the hat to use as the ties.
- For the badge, I cut out a gray felt circle about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Then, I placed it on top of my yellow felt and cut another circle about a 1/4 inch bigger. Then I cut one more gray circle about 1/2 inch wider than the yellow circle. I then drew around the yellow circle onto the back of the gray circle. Using the drawn circle as a guide, I cut scallops around the edge of the grey, making sure they did not go past the line. Glue all the circles in place and glue a precut felt number 1 to center of the small gray circle. Last, glue a pin to the back of the badge.
