I need some ideas for a surprise 40th birthday party gift for a woman.

The phrase "Forty and Fabulous!" goes over well with the guest of honor. Gag gifts (joke gifts): Empty large pill bottle. Choose a funny name for the "pills". Fill with assorted colored jellybeans or other candies. Make a label w/ the name and Directions, something like; take red for forgetfulness, blue for sleeplessness, pink for...etc. (02/21/2006)

If I were 40 again, I'd like to receive something that I can use to pamper myself. Try to think of something a person might never buy for themselves, ie bath salts, or special powders and candles, bubble bath. Maybe you could make a box or basket. My number one wish would be for a gift certificate for a facial or a massage at a health spa (grin). (02/22/2006)

I was 9 months pregnant when I turned 40, so gag gifts were not as appreciated as they should have been.
How about 40 letters from friends and family
40 pennies, photos, hand made gift certificates
40 recipes, love letters from DH, postcards, silly toys
40-wof whatever her interests are (Scrapbooking, embroidrey thread, colored pencils, etc.) (02/22/2006)

My mom is turning forty and has always wanted a tattoo. So I'm blindfolding her and taking her to get a temporary henna tattoo. It's gonna be fun and unexpected. I'm trying to do some things she's always wanted for herself! (01/23/2008)

I wanted to do something nice for my best friend who is turning 40 on Friday. She was not looking forward to turning 40, so I wanted her to laugh a little each day. I started 40 days before her birthday and did something little for her each day. I found lists of 40 things on the internet like 40 things to do with chocolate, on an elevator, 40 jokes, 40 birthday quotes, 40 ways to eat Oreos, etc.
Then I found stuff at the dollar store, like a gumball machine and gumballs, a Night mask (for 40 winks), a bunch of popcorn stuff in a basket for a movie night, etc. I sent 2 items a week to her and the other days emailed her a '40' list. She ended up with 29 emails and 11 little gifts. I spent about $50 total and she said it was the best gift she has ever received. Good luck! (02/11/2009)
