My 48k58 old Singer sewing machine won't go in reverse, any ideas?

I would oil around the button or lever that makes it go in reverse as a first step.
Make sure that your reverse button isn't stuck in sew position. Also go on Youtube were they have videos on this for your machine!
Normally this can be an issue with the bobbin area on the machine where old thread is stuck in this area or you have a lot of dust in there. You will need to remove the bobbin and the canister to clean this area and look at the foot feed.
If old take the top off and force some of the levers on the right hand side. They work the reverse and length. It is a build up of old oil and grease - lack of use. Have a look on you tube.
