The pioneers who traveled west would put silver coins in their water barrels to keep the water from spoiling. Back before there was refrigeration, people would put a silver coin in their milk jugs to keep the milk fresh longer.

I find this very interesting. We use collodial silver for a natural antibiotic.Sounds like the same idea. How can I learn more about this?
Thanks for the info.
What stores carry "silver rounds" ?
COIN stores care silver rounds! ... & some Pawn Shops too! ... Just look up "Coin Stores" or "Numismatic Stores" in your yellow pages. Sometimes Sports Collectibles stores also sell silver rounds. Just give them a call first & ask if they sell "One Ounce Silver Rounds"... Maybe these days with the price of Silver so high, they may even sell half-ounce rounds.
---> BUT: Make sure these are FINE silver (It'll say Fine Silver or 99.9 on the "coin" or "round") & NOT Sterling Silver... Because of the purity. Sterling would also work, but then you may be putting a tiny bit of copper in your milk or water. You don't want to use a Real Silver Coin (like a half dollar), because Coin silver is only 90% silver unless it's an emergency.

Of course Sterling Silver will work. Its 92.5% fine silver. More pure than even the old U.S. 90% silver coins.
The pioneers traveling in their covered wagons across the U.S. west would drop a 90% silver coin in their water barrels and the 90% silver dollars and half dollars worked just fine. Because U.S. silver coins were only 90% silver.
If you don't want to track them down you can also buy silver rounds on ebay.
And btw I can confirm from personal experience that a coil of heavy uninsulated copper wire will keep algae from growing in a birdbath.
you worry about a little copper in your milk you got 10000% more if you have copper pipes a sterling silver spoon will work fine no problem here and old silver coins are not very pure because the lack of refining technology
I take Collodial Silver every day & my skin does not turn gray. I have been doing this for years. As long as it is 99.9% or 500 ppm it will not turn your skin.
I read something about silver building up and not being able to be naturally excreeted by the body. Any ideas on that subject?
Thanks doing a project on it; also water expires? Didn't know that!
You can shake it up to get oxygen back in it and that can help with the stale taste.
The coin doesnt have to be 99.9% pure silver to keep water fresh. The U.S. silver half dollar coins and dollar coins the pioneers in the wagon trains used and the settlers used were only 90% pure silver and they worked just fine.
.999 "silver-rounds" and "bars" is 90% silver.
.999 "Silver-Rounds" "Bars" are NOT 90% Silver.
.999 Silver Rounds and Bars are .999+ pure fine Silver. That's 999 parts out of 1000 are Silver the Round or Bar should be marked.
And 92.5% or 925 Silver 925 parts Silver and 75 parts copper and it's typically called Sterling Silver. It is used in Jewelry to Silverware and more. Any of these blends are pure enough to help in your milk or water. I would stay away from Jewelry and old Circulated Coins, but I think a couple B.U. quarters or maybe an uncirculated pre 1965 half dollar or part of a handle from a Sterling Spoon in your 2 gallon milk or water jug would do the job.
I hope this helps clarify the different purities of the Silver.
