Photo Description Mother had returned to feed them. They quickly scooted underneath her and began to nurse fervently as if shed been gone all morning. The mother watched me in my truck and waited until her fawns were full. Once finished the family of mule deer bounded off together, deeper into the prairie to find refuge for the day.
Driving down a county road on an early July morning in North Dakota, twin fawns popped up out of the grass in the field to my left as the sound of the gravel beneath my wheels spooked them. The spotted babies looked my way for a moment or two before all the sudden they were bounding away with a destination in mind.
