I was worried that hand sanitizer alone would not clean our hands well enough so I invented my own sanitizing wipes. I buy a container of baby wipes and open them and pour in 1/2 bottle of alcohol. I pour most on top and some in-between the wipes. I keep it in the car so every time we get in the car after shopping we can clean our hands very easily. Our hands feel very clean and germ free.

Yes, this does work! In fact I love the way alcohol refreshes & renews dried-up wipes after they've sat to long in an opened container! I use these alcohol-wipes to clean & wipe down things in our booth at the Saturday Market fairs where I sell things. These wipes also make great on-the-go cleaning & sanitizing wipes for when you travel or go camping. Use them to help sanitize public toilets before you put the paper covers on. When you travel with kids these alcohol-wipes are great to clean up sticky car messes & wipe off dirty hands. I like to clean my steering wheel with them & I also use them to wipe off my armpits when I'm camping or when it's really hot in my car & I'm away from water.
actually how much is a half of bottle --- 1 cup of 91% isopropyl alcohol or what?
I have Kirkland baby wipes. 100 wipes in a package. And I only have grain alcohol. I am not sure how much alcohol to pour over the wipes to make them sanitizing wipes.
I just read your comment since this ordeal about this coronavirus that is going around I just bought some Huggies Wipes I was going to put alcohol in them since my husband is going on a public train and he is going to the cancer treatment I want him to bring these wipes so he can wipe down the seats and whatnot since his immune system is not as strong as like ours is and I was wondering should I let the baby wipes dry out then add alcohol or can I add the alcohol while the baby wipes are still there? I'm just trying to keep him healthy and safe or can he just use the baby wipes just plain to white things down?
That comment was posted in 2006 and does not address the current coronavirus situation. I would recommend getting disinfecting wipes, like Lysol. If not, you could try making them with this recipe that has been approved by the CDC.

You might try adding white vinegar, instead of alcohol. Alcohol is drying. Vinegar is a disinfectant, kills bacteria and germs and helps to restore the Ph of your skin. It feels really good and softens your skin. The smell goes away when it's dry. Most soaps and detergents are alkaline and they irritate and dry the skin. After doing dishes or cleaning of any kind, when my skin is still wet, I squirt some vinegar on my hands and sort of wash with it a bit and then rinse. It helps to stop the soaps from drying my hands. Good as a facial astringent, too.
Vinegar does not kill/decompose Coronavirus. The virus is not living, its covered in a lipid/fat coating. It takes alcohol, or other ingredient that will break down this coating to cause the virus to be ineffective/not contagious.
Here is a link from Consumer Reports with more information. Commercial products are going to be more effective than homemade.
Just read that vinegar is not recommended to use to kill the Coronavirus. Google it.
Vinegar does NOT kill the corona virus or any other virus for that matter. Hydrogen peroxide, alcohol (70%) and bleach all do.
Vinegar doesn't kill as much as alcohol. Alcohol & bleach are way more effective than vinegar.
Vinegar will do nothing to kill CORONAVIRUS
That is an old wives tale. 70 percent rubbing alcohol or higher
How much alcohol to how many wipes. I was thinking I would add alcohol to travel Wet Ones.
Hand sanitizer recipes call for 60% alcohol to be effective so I imagine that you should use higher strength isopropyl like 91 or 99% to offset whatever in in the Wet Ones. Try maybe a cup or so? They probably should be extra saturated to be effective.
Keep in mind that this will dry out your skin as the alcohol is very harsh compared to Wet Wipes. I would recommend using these only when traveling as washing your hands with soap and water is the most effective way to kill germs.
I've been doing that for a few weeks. Baby wipes are far more plentiful in the shops.
Can't find alcohol -- can you add a bleach mixture to dried baby wipes...I have several packs that have dried out and it looks like there's nothing significant in them other than preservatives and aloe. Appreciate your input.
Disinfectant antibacterial wipes and disinfectant have the same ingredient.
Antibac wipes= Benzalkonium Chloride 0.4%,
Household grade disinfectant= Benzalkonium Chloride 1.0%.
Cant i just add disinfectant to the baby wipes to make the disinfectant wipes for a fraction of price.
Can I add Clorox to baby wipes to make disinfectant wipes? If so, how much Clorox?
Can I add Clorox to baby wipes to make disinfectant wipes? If so, how much Clorox?
I wish this was more specific regarding size and quantity... Baby wipes come in 3 different sizes, as does bottles of alcohol -,and strength.
How large is the pack of wipes and how large a bottle of alcohol? How many wipes are in the pack? A bit more detail please. I just bought a pack of wipes to do this with. thx
During the Corvid 19 times, it is hard to find rubbing alcohol. You can buy a liter of cheap (Kamchatka) 80 proof Vodka at liquor stores. I wonder if I could pour Vodka with similar results.
80 proof vodka is just 40% alcohol content. It isn't considered strong enough to be effective against COVID19. The CDC recommends at least 60% alcohol to kill off the virus. You would need to get a higher proof grain alcohol (151 rum or Everclear) to make this work.
Washing with soap and water is still considered to be the best way to remove and kill the virus.
The usual size alcohol for Yrs has been 16oz. I believe it would be 1/2 bottle of that size poured over the wipes in most average containers 60-80 wipes. I used what my husband found in his garage which was 32oz and only used 1/4 of that in the wipes bag! PLENTY of alcohol absorbed in my new pkg!
Does anyone have a good ratio of how much alcohol or bleach to add to a container of regular cleaning wipes to make them into disinfecting wipes.
How much is a half a bottle of alcohol with that be a big bottle or a small bottle?
That's what a 3 yr. old would do. Get a job!
Why can't I open a Pampers package and add 'All' detergent with some water?
Is this method good for disinfecting for Covid-19?
I don't think the alcohol content is high enough to be effective against COVID-19. You might try this recipe instead, which is approved by the CDC. It is made with Lysol so it would be relatively harsh on your hands. Experts recommend washing with soap and water, or using hand sanitizer directly to avoid coronavirus.

funny that baby wipes are good enough to clean a baby from feces. why wouldnt it be good enough to clean everything else. i have been using baby wipes regularly. when we have no water i use them.
What a great idea! I'm going to start doing this today! Thank you so much!
