Does a man's crocheted hat have elastic on the bottom? If the hat is for an 11 year old boy and I don't think it is narrow enough on the bottom to hold it on can I crochet in thin elastic?

i think you can get away with about anything for a young boy :) maybe not so for a man.... you could always start up the last row again and decrease every third or fourth row to tighten it...
Here's a video that might help!

You can now get elastic in just about every color...even clear for making jewelry.
If you don't want to make the hat longer, there are two ways to do it.
First, simply fold over the last row with the elastic and sew it with a straight stitch on the inside of the hat. Measure the elastic before you put it in and tie it very well. Some ladies overlay the first end, sew it down then loop the other in and do the same. This pretty much assures the "knot" won't come out as there isn't one.
The second way is to thread the elastic through the end row on the hat, and secure it as above or knot it so it doesn't show in the back.
I hope those help. PBP
Should be nice and easy. Pull in the cap edge by crocheting every 2 or even more stitches. It could also be done with needle and elastic taking stitches every 2 crochet hat stitches.
If the hat is already made, you can thread it in and out of the bottom loops and make a knot that you hide on the inside. There is very thin elastic called elastic thread that would probably work well for you.
