I have just bought one of the above machines at a yard sale. I don't know what all the dials mean. It worked at first, but is now making bad stitches. The front of the stitch is OK, but the back has loose loops, they are not gripping the fabric. If I pull one end of the thread the whole thing comes out. If anybody knows how to adjust this I would be very grateful.
Also, do you know where I can go to see what the dials on the machine are for?
Thanks so much.

Here is a copy of the manual. www.singerco.com/
Thanks Judy
I have one of these machines. It does not say in the manual how to adjust the bobbin tension that I have found, but there are tiny little flat head screws if you are looking at the bobbin case. The one to the left adjusts the tension of the bobbin if you need to.
Make sure you have the correct size bobbin. The Merritt 2404 uses the shorter plastic bobbin, using the taller bobbin will result in tight tension with loops on the bottom of fabric and perfect top stitching. I'm a very long time seamstress but this problem frustrated me for days. It was not lack of skill just poor memory!
