I have a 1.5 year old mixed breed that we got from a rescue in April. She is crate trained and for the most part house broken, however it seems like every morning when my husband gets up he takes the dogs out and after they have come back in she will poop in our living room. Very rarely will she pee in the house just poop. I am at a loss for what to do, we have left her out longer, we have kept her in her crate and nothing seems to be breaking the habit.

- Normally a rescue dog has many issues they don't tell you about.
- The dog could of been in horrible living conditions, made to sleep in their own pee and poop, or been locked in a cage and never let out.
- Having to house train a dog like this takes time and patients.
- The only real thing you can do is to keep the dog close to you when you get home from a walk.
- You will need to watch the dog closely and when he starts sniffing around or getting into the position of pooping, grab him and get him outside fast.
- I know this will be hard, but it is basically all you can do.
- Some people say keep the dog tethered close to you at all times.
- I am not so sure this is a fantastic idea or not.
- If you can determine how long it is before the dog poops in the house after his walk it is easier to keep an eye on him.
- Just watch him when he get home and see what he does.
- If he goes and hides then this is a good indication he is going to go and poop in your home.
- Once you see this, grab the dog immediately and run outside. Force him to finish making his poop outside.
- He will catch on and finally learn that he has to poop outside and not in your home.
