If the table is that old or as old as you say it is then it is solid wood. I would check with an antique dealer in your area before refinishing the table. Once this happens no matter what the value of the table is greatly decreased. Even though the table is not in tip top condition and it does look like it needs to be refinished I would talk with a professional before I started this project.
