Your Lane cedar chest is from 1928.
Usually it is possible to determine the production date by read the serial number of Lane cedar chests backwards: the last two or one digit in backwards is the day, then two or one digit in backwards is the month, then two digits in backwards is the year, then there may be an additional digit (first digit in the serial number) - the plant location. But this rule does not always work. It is impossible to read the serial number of your Lane cedar chest backwards, so the year is the last two digits, but not backwards 28 - 1928.
Couldn't it also be one of original 1912s just according to serial number without picture? The date manufactured could've been August, 2, 1912 and manufacturer was plant 11???
To date a Lane Cedar chest, it has been customary to read the serial number backwards and that will date the piece. Sometimes there is a extra number , and this gives a production location.
The numbers are read backwards on a Lane cedar chest:

Usually numbers are read backwards to reveal the date manufactured. That doesnt seem to work in this case. You could write to the company or contact them online.
As a general rule, the age would be determined as follows:
"The production date by reading the serial number backwards:
the last two or one digits in backwards is the day, then two or one digits in backwards is the month, then two digits in backwards is the year, then there may be an additional digit (first digit in the serial number) - the plant location."
However; many times this formula will not 'fit' the serial number of a Lane cedar chest and Lane does not provide a reason why this happens.
I would suggest you contact the company and ask your question. As a general rule, Lane customer service answers most enquiries.
They also answer questions about lock/key replacements.
