Age of Conant Ball Bench?

A wooden bench. Can anyone help me determine the age of this 6 foot long Conant Ball bench? It has no nails. The legs are inserted and pegged. My mother brought it from Massachusetts in the 1960s, but I'm sure it's much older. Any ideas what decade it's from? or century? the 1800s or 1900s? any idea on the value?

They were founded in the 1880s. Any antique furniture dealer could help you determine its age.

Still trying to lay my hands on the right info, but I believe that this logo was discontinued in the late 1950s. I know there are multiple examples of the logo in the 1930s.

I found a catalogue with similar legs, but it did not have the nice detailing around the edges from the 1930s. Still digging. If I can find my other sources, I will post back.

Value is going to be difficult without knowing where you are located as furniture values are regional. Let me know where you are and that may help.

Thanks!

This is pretty close to yours--it shows it as a bench for a dining table. I can't tell if all four of your corners are cut like the one--that is what is holding me back from saying this is an exact match to yours:

Values in Michigan for Conant items seem to be fairly high which tells me there is a low supply and a moderate to high demand.

I suggest calling around to a few antique stores to see what it would cost to buy your piece and then that would give you retail values. You as an individual can expect to fetch about half of retail...but start there and then take best offer.

I have a link for antique stores in the state--perhaps a few are near you! Let us know how your sale goes!! It is a lovely piece!! Made to last!! They don't make furniture like that these days!

Your bench has legs attached using the traditional method of inserting turned spindles and legs into the table top (the circles with a splice of darker wood in the centers, which expanded to form a tight fit). This method of connection was definitely used in the 1930s, for example, like for this chair www.myantiquefurniturecollection.../famous-reproductions-...-by-conant...

The makers mark also dates back to the 1930s.
Therefore, I have no doubt that your bench was made in the 1930s.

The price of an Antique Conant-Ball Co. Of Boston Splayed-Leg Pad Foot Side Table circa 1920s is $ 618 www.chairish.com/.../antique-conant-ball-co-of-boston...
The price of your circa 1930s bench is a little lower, I think about $ 400.
