Thriftyfun has a guide here: www.thriftyfun.com/
You find age by using your serial number.

Read the serial number backwards to determine your chest's age. Sometimes there's an extra digit which indicates the plant where the chest was made. The last Lane cedar chest was made in 2001, then the plant closed. Vintage Lane cedar chests sell from $100 to about $700 depending on the age, condition, and whether the hardware is original. Most are worth about $200 to $400. Cedar chests made before 1987 have lids that automatically latch shut when closed...which poses a suffocation risk to children.
I found another answer about a Murphy cedar chest 23.
Does your Murphy cedar chest look like this chest?:

Another Murphy cedar chest 23

I think it is from the early or mid 20th century.
1950s Murphy solid cedar chest was sold for $150
Serial number holds clues to the age of Lane cedar chests, but not Murphy cedar chests.
23 is the model number.
I found a Murphy Cedar Chest with model number 19:
www.chairish.com/
The cedar chest, stamped "Murphy 19" on the backside, is from the 1930s.
It was sold for $300.
I think your chest is from the 1930s too.
Thanks for the correction - you are right as only Lane uses the serial number dating system.
