Photo Description We think we are doing the birds a favor by feeding them. Not really. They have survived for thousands of years without any help from us. But when the ground is covered with a deep blanket of snow, well, that's a different story. With their high metabolic rate, birds can starve in a short time when they can't get to their food supply on the ground. If you don't feed birds year round (You're missing the delight of watching them from a window), that's OK. But do consider keeping suet, seed, etc, on hand to put out after a snow. You will be repaid. This ship would be overrun, literally plagued with all sorts of insects were it not for our feathered friends. Good grief. It's started snowing, again.
Somehow, our area missed an early frost. It sure as heck didn't miss an early snow. I know the children are happy. I don't need snow in my life, thank you. One ankle deep, very pretty snow each year for the children is enough.
