I woke up with itchy red spots on my knees and arms. I haven't found any bugs in my apartment, but I can't think of what else it could be. Anyone know what this is from?

Double check your mattress for bedbugs. If no problem there, do you sleep with any windows open at night? In my area (central NY state), we get a tiny little bug called no-seeums. They are a biting gnat that fits through window screens easily. Around me, they come out after dinnertime. I have to take my screens outside and spray them with bug spray, a few times from spring till fall (or more often depending on how often it rains).
I believe you have bedbugs.
Perhaps you have a 'new' mattress or you have been somewhere and brought bedbugs home on your clothing or?
first - see what bedbug bites look like (and they can get infected).

You can go to your local Ace or True Value Hardware store and ask for something to kill bedbugs and they will have some good suggestions.
These bits cam come from fleas, mites, mosquitoes, or even bed bugs. You will need to look around your home and check around to see if you have any type of bugs around your bed, on the floor, or under the bed. This can rule out bed bugs in your home. If you can't find any then start to check for fleas in your home or even mites.
This can be bites from mites, they have the same effect - here is a link on how to tell and treat these pain in the b--- www.healthline.com/

To me they look like mosquito bites, but I can't see the centers, which is often the tell tale sign.
You may want to have them looked at by a doctor as they look inflamed. Safety first! You will want to avoid infections.
First of all - so sorry you have to deal with this! It happened with me also, it was an unpleasant surprise.
Apart from what's been said by cybergrannie, I can add this.
* don't try natural remedies, these are much nastier than roaches: thebiggreenk.com/
Site is promotional, but the general info is here. Essential oils and baking soda don't help.
* most important thing in dealing with them is the mattress and frame. This will be their main nest since you are the food and they like to be near food. They will likely be in other spots but most of them will be near the bed or in the bed.
* choose your instruments wisely - if you have a steamer for clothes at home, it's your greatest weapon to destroy both creatures and their eggs (sheesh, yes, it sounds disgusting, but they probably have laid eggs in your mat). Just choose the proper hose and be sure that you haven't missed a spot.

Hope everything will be okay, OP! Good luck.
