Applesauce Cake

Ingredients:

• 2/3 cup shortening
• 1 egg
• 2 1/2 cups applesauce (hot)
• 2 cups flour
• 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup chopped dates
• 2 tsp. baking soda
• 1 tsp. cinnamon
• raisins and nuts, optional

Directions:

Cream sugar and shortening; add egg and beat. Add flour and dry ingredient, except baking soda. Add baking soda to hot applesauce then mix into mixture. Put in pan, bake 15 minutes at 300 degrees F then increase temperature to 350 degrees F and bake 45 minutes or until done.
