Baked "Hardboiled" Eggs

I'll never boil eggs again! I found a recipe online for baked eggs and it's just too simple to ever bother with watching a pot again.

Place eggs in a muffin tin or directly on your oven rack. And bake at 325 degrees F. for 30 minutes. Remove and plunge into an ice water bath, then peel and serve.

To avoid the brown spot that sometimes gets on when baked it is good to dampen a towel and lay it on rack before setting the eggs on the the towel. Don't have it too wet or they will take longer to bake.

If baking eggs works best for you, I say 'Go for it'. It does leave me a bit confused, though. I've never watched a pot of eggs boiling, and don't know of anyone who has.

I put my eggs in a sauce pot and add enough cold water to just cover the eggs. I turn the burner on 'Medium'. Never 'High'. I use the medium setting so the water doesn't heat up quickly enough to cause the egg shells to crack. The medium heat also reduces the chances of any brown spots.

I do take notice of when the water comes to a slow boil. Then I check the time and come back to remove the eggs from heat in 5-7 minutes depending on how done I want my eggs.

Honestly, I couldn't afford you method. It must take ten times the electricity. Thumbs up for creativity.

how sweet of you to look out for me likekinds. sorry you got confused and thought i was actually standing over the pot without moving, welded to one spot waiting for it to boil. no, i'm talking about the exact same thing you're doing when you take notice of when your pot of water with the eggs in it comes to a boil. so... "watching" a pot... "taking notice" of it <--- same thing! i guess i should have clarified that for you but i always assume that all women are multitasking in the kitchen. and thanks for sharing your personal recipe, sounds vaguely familiar.

i have good news for you: it takes 1 kWh to heat an oven at 350º for 30 minutes. average price per kWh in my state is less than 9¢ per hour, so it costs me less than a nickel to cook the eggs in the oven! you must be so relieved to hear that, you sounded pretty worried about my light bill.

and i'd love to take credit for being so creative but i found the idea online. i do have a fairly fluid mind though and like to be open to new suggestions. in fact that's why i love reading all kinds of hints and recipes here. some i would never bother with and others i love... but they're all fun to read!

I would not want to heat my home to bake eggs. I think it's cool though. The oven just heats the house too long.

Sounds like a rather expensive way to hard cook eggs. What does it cost to run the oven for a half hour compared to boiling water for a few minutes?
