Most shampoos contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) which, in tests, have proved to be harmful with nasty side-effects.

I tried this but my hair tends to be greasy. The first three weeks I absolutely loved it, it made my hair soft and shiney. After the third week my hair began to be limp and would feel greasy almost immediately after washing. Does anyone have a solution to this?
Yes, after about three weeks using baking soda and water as a shampoo, your hair will be greasy. Regular shampoos strip oil from your scalp and the sebaceous glands on your scalp have gotten accustomed to over-producing oil. So, your hair will look terrible and greasy for weeks 3 through 5 of not using regular shampoos because your sebaceous glands will be over-producing and your scalp's pores are "detoxing" from the junk they put in shampoo!
After the 5 or 6 week mark, your hair and scalp will "normalize". This method of using baking soda (and some people use vinegar as a rinse after the baking soda), is called "no poo". Google it to find more info. My whole family has been doing "no poo" for almost a year. Our hair looks great. We only do the baking soda wash and vinegar rinse once a week or less now! Hope that helps.
Vinegar rinse, just google no poo and you can read all about it.
