Meringue:
For Pie: Blend sugar, cornstarch, flour, and salt. Add milk. Cook and stir constantly until thickens. Add well beaten egg yolks. Cook 1 minutes longer. Cool slightly; add vanilla. Cover bottom of pie shell with sliced bananas; pour in filling and top with meringue.
For Meringue: Have egg whites at room temperature, add salt; beat until flight but not stiff. Add sugar, a tablespoon at a time. Bake in slow oven (325 degrees F.) for 15-20 minutes, till meringue is browned.
