Silver Answer Medal for All Time! 440 Answers

A Bangle Made of Transformer Wire and BeadsYou don't need expensive materials to craft jewelry. This time I want to show you how to make bangles for almost nothing. All you need is copper transformer wire from a damaged device, some beads and crochet skills.

By the way, bangles came back into style!

Supplies:

Supplies for making the bangle.

Steps:

  1. String the beads one by one onto the wire: first one big bead, then one small bead, then again one big and one small, and so on. The number of the beads depends on the diameter of the bangle, but it is better to insert a few more beads.
  2. A row of beads on copper wire.

  3. As you probably already guessed, you will crochet using wire. You have to know how to crochet a chain stitch. But wire crocheting has specificity.
Using hook size D-3 crochet a first loop, but do not tighten the knot. Thus, you get two stitches at once: the knot and the first loop.

Use the larger crochet hook to make the stitches round and the same size. To do this, insert the back end of the larger hook into each successive stitch (see photo). Do this with each stitch you will crochet.
  4. Crocheting the wire.

  5. Slide the big bead to the current stitch. Bend the wire so that the bead is straight and crochet two chain stitches.
  6. Crocheting the wire and beads together.

  9. Continue crocheting by alternating steps 5 and 4 until you have a length that matches the diameter of the bangle. Remember to use the larger crochet hook to round each crocheted chain stitch. There should be the small bead at the end of the crocheted chain.
  10. Crocheting the wire and beads together.

  11. Be sure to try on the bangle before connecting the ends. Straighten the knot and thread the end of the wire through the stitch at the opposite end of the crocheted chain so that you repeat the previous stitch.
  12. Crocheting the wire bangle together.

  13. Twist the ends of the wire and cut off wire, leaving an end about 0.5 inches.
  14. Twisting the wire ends together.

  15. Hide the twisted end of the wire inside the nearest bead.
  16. Tucking in the wire end into the bangle.

  17. Your bangle is ready. Give it a round shape and enjoy.

I would recommend you to put a protective coating on the copper wire (Renaissance wax or Johnson's paste wax) or varnish it.
  18. The completed bangle.
