Gold Post Medal for All Time! 899 Posts This simple white sauce makes a great base for cheese sauce.
Total Time: 25 minutes
Yield: 1 cup
Ingredients:
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 2 Tbsp flour
- 1 cup milk
- salt and pepper, to taste
This recipe makes 1 cup of sauce. The photos are of me making a 3 cup batch.
Steps:
- In a heavy saucepan, melt butter over low heat.
- Stir in flour and cook over low heat for three minutes, stirring constantly. NOTE: Do not allow the mixture to brown.
- Gradually stir in milk. Continue to stir constantly. Cook over low heat until mixture begins to thicken. Add salt and pepper, to taste.
- OPTIONAL: If you are making a cheese sauce, now is the time to add your cheese and heat until completely melted. Remember to stir continuously.
