If you are looking for a unique and fun craft, this bat silhouette is just the thing. Kids of all ages will enjoy creating their bat outlines. And as a teacher or parent, you can incorporate this craft into the Halloween theme, learning about nocturnal animals, or studying the letter B.
Total Time: 15 minutes to make & a couple hours to dry
Yield: 2 pieces
Source: http://www.firstpalette.com/tool_box/printables/bat.html
Supplies:
- 2 pieces black construction paper
- washable paint (orange, white, and yellow)
- 3 paint brushes or Q-tips
- 1 paint palette or paper plate
- painter's tape or poster putty
- bat printable from source website (3 small and 1 large)
- scissors
Steps:
- Print and cut out your bats.
- Use the painter's tape or poster putty to attach your bats to the black construction paper. I put my 3 small bats on one page and my large bat on another. Cut and mold the tape or putty around each bat's outline, making it overhang onto the paper about half a centimeter. All edges need to be covered so that no paint will escape under the bats. But, be careful to maintain the bat's shape.
- Start by using the orange and yellow paint to dab dots around the outline of each bat.
- Remove the painter's tape or putty and paper bats. I found that the tape worked better.
- Now dab dots around the remainder of the page. I added in white to make the background pop. White-out works well if you don't have white paint!
- Allow to dry and display!
