Isn't there a longshoremans union or something you could call and ask? I doubt you are going to find very many longshoreman on here...

Typically, a Longshore Union applicant must have many years of experience before being accepted into the union and then obtaining the better jobs. My grandson belongs to the plumbers union in Ft Lauderdale, Fl and he says you should talk to someone at the union hall so you will know exactly what can/will qualify or disqualify you.
He had to pass several tests even to become an apprentice and then work for quite some time before being eligible to apply for anything above that level.
Unions all have their own rules and laws so please check with someone who really knows everything about this union.
