In my bedroom I have one wall light switch that operates a ceiling fan. There are also 3 other outlets in the room. The problem I'm having is my ceiling fan, when on, will suddenly stop working; the lights also. Sometimes it can take 2 hrs up to a few days before the light switch works.

From DIY chat room:
Start by checking the switch (or all switches if there are multiple ones). Kill the breaker. Use a circuit tester or voltmeter to verify there is no power at the switch before touching anything! Then check that all wires are tight and well connected. If you see any black marks - a sign of a short - replace the switch.
If the switch(es) are fine, next plan would be to check the connections at the fixture.
There is a short in your light switch. It is not hard to change the light switch. Go to your local hardware store and purchase a new one. Afterwards, shut off the electricity to your home before starting. Remove the old switch and follow the wiring.
A loose or broken cable can also cause you a problem. Before changing out the switch check the cables on the switch first.
