How and when did you get your pet?
Benny is my boyfriend's dog. He has had Benny for 5 or 6 yrs now. Benny was about a year old when John got him. He was being rehomed and John's daughter thought he would be a great companion for her dad. John was more of a cat person then, so this new dog was quite a challenge. Benny and John spent many months tolerating each other and trying to get to know each other.
One day after Benny had gotten out of the yard and picked up by Animal Control (the last of 2 or 3 times, but this time John didn't find him right away). John looked for him all over the neighborhood and called Animal Control several times over about a week or so. He was staring to lose hope and thinking that the news wasn't going to be good if he did find out where he was.
John's daughter and son-in-law went to the pound to look for him one last time, while they were there they asked if there was any other place they took dogs that had been picked up 7 days or so ago. They described Benny to the person at the pound. Just by chance the pound worker said that there was a dog that matched Bennys description that had been moved up to another location within the county, because he had been there for 7 days or more. He was set for euthanasia in the next day or two. John's daughter and son-in-law went up and sure enough, it was Benny. They got him out and didn't tell John that they found him. They got to the house and went in and told John how they looked and looked and no luck. Well then here comes Benny running thru the door and jumped into his lap. John was so shocked and so happy! He had given up hope by then and didn't think he'd ever see Benny again.
Since that day, John and Benny have bonded tighter than any man and dog I know. They both realized what they had and now neither of them takes the other for granted.
What does your pet like to do for fun?
Benny loves to run up and down the fence line in the front yard and let anyone walking by that he is protecting his yard and "he means business"! He also loves to get the dogs next door going by barking and snarling at the bottom of the fence. The dogs feed into his banter and run over to snarl and bark back at him. Benny then will proceded to urinate on the fence, sometimes almost actually urinating on their noses! Then he runs off (laughing to himself I am sure, although I havent heard it outloud!) chest out and proud of himself!
Do you have anything else to share about your pet?
Benny is a great protector and fierce watch dog. He always lets us know if anyone or anything is in his yard..whether it be a fly or a human, he alerts us immediately and loudly so that we can be sure he's on duty.
