I found a seashell that is the shape of a heart and I would like to turn it into a necklace. I am wondering what kind of adhesive I should use to attach it to the chain?

The best glue is hot glue gun,it adheres really well.
E6000- made for jewelry and crafting. Real good adhesive!
I have found out the hard way that these other glues do not work when you are gluing shells to make a necklace. The only glue that works well for me is epoxy.
Would it help if the shell were coated in, say, clear nail polish and allowed to dry first?
I normally don't do this at all. It can discolor the shell over time. The same with varnish. I made a lot of different things using shells, bamboo, and coconut. If you want the shell to look natural just glue it to what you want to glue it to with epoxy.
