Use Windex and coffee filters. The fibers in the coffee filters help get handprints and other things off stainless steel much better than a paper towel and dries clean without leaving smudges.

This is the stainless answer. Forget all other oils, cleaners etc. Get Barkeepers Cleanser. Very cheap a powder in low tech can. First clean off all the goo grease wax with the Barkeepers. Rinse with a good rag. Forget the directions at this point. Then make a little light paste and go down front. Not toothpaste...like light lotion... Don't be afraid to use a little elbow grease for some areas. The oxidized stuff should show on rag as blackish. Damp rinse again.
Finally with clean rag dry off. You can experiment the streaks are chemical changes in the surface. Don't put the stuff on and wait an hour do the job all at once. I had so much build up of stainless cleaner I had to do a couple times. Now I just take a damp cloth and touch top of can and buff off the smudge. My grand kids love to leave hand prints.
Oil yuch! is very bad idea for any surface in kitchen. Cleaners have wax not much better. Professional kitchens use Barkeepers. Also good for pans, cook top etc. Like I said, cheap get at Ace or Home Depot Gold can metal top so keep bottom like old cleanser can on dish or paper towel.
WOW! I have been looking for a way to remove the cleaner buildup they sell you! I never thought in my wildest dreams I would use Barkeeper's cleaner on my stainless but by am I glad I did. Our Stainless was looking less and less illustrious, streaks like mad and as time went on I kept thinking what have we done different since the initial purchase, well we were using Stainless cleaner since purchase. I realized it was build up of product being sold to everyone as a cleaner....NOT.
My new stainless steel kenmore toaster
