Birds Nesting in Fireplace Vent?

Birds are picking away at a outside metal cage for an inside gas fireplace. Last year a fire started when we started to use the fireplace and now they are picking away the cage my husband put there. What to do?

You may have to put on a stainless chimney cap. They can't pick through that. You local hardware store may have them, or you usually can get them from a chimney sweep. You should probably have it checked to make sure they have not damaged the lining of the fireplace.

I would get an exterminator to remove the nest and then get the chimney cap.
