I washed my new yellow shorts with other colors in cold water. Some black dye transferred to them. I did not machine dry them. I tried Dawn dish soap in cold water with a scrub brush and nothing happened. Any hope of getting the stain out?

You could try the Rit Color Grabber.
Thank you Judy, I read the info on the Rit and my worry would be it leaving colorless patches. But thank you for the product intro, I never heard of that before. Just the color change Rit.
Boy do I hate when this happens!!
I had luck with a cotton/poly blend sweater that had the same issue by leaving it sit overnight in a clean bucket of cold water with 3 quarts of water and 2 cups white vinegar...then wash normally. LINE DRY...NOT DRY IN THE DRYER AGAIN UNTIL THE STAINS ARE GONE.
If it does not work the first time, repeat but this time add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the mix. It will fizz up. But that is OK.
Sometimes it takes several treatments.
Hope you have success like I did.
I also recently learned about washing things like this with an Oxyclean (the powder kind in a tub) and Zout (both are usually found at the big box stores like walmart). It works great on stains on white...but I have never tried it on a color item. When you do this for white, drying the item outside in the sun is really moves the process along...and removes the stains. If you are going to lose the shorts anyway and my usual vinegar trick doesn't work, you can probably try the O/Z combo and sun drying! You would have nothing to lose!
Thank you Pghgirl40, I am going to try that now. I will let you know if it works. ;) I will give that a try at least 3x then if it doesn't work I will try the O/Z combo as well.
