What causes "skunk-like" body odor?
By A. Lin
Diet is possibly the cause. Some foods just do not agree with some people's body chemistry. If I have even one junk food (candy, ice cream, chips, soft drinks, etc.) every day, after a few days, my body odor gets bad.
When I switch back to fresh fruits, veggies, water with lemon juice, and a swig of liquid chlorophyll every morning, the smell gets better then eventually goes away.
I can't find any information on this but since I was diagnosed w/ breast cancer 3 years ago, I too have the most horrid body odor. Not certain I would classify as "skunk-like" more like some harsh chemical. I can say it is so bad that I cannot ride in the A/C car without the windows down. A gagging smell.
The best thing I've found to do is: bathe w/ anti-bacterial soap, dry off, wipe body down w/ alcohol soaked cotten pads, let dry, wipe off w/ Witch Hazel, put on tons of anti-perspirant. Sometimes I also put powder on the bad areas-under arms, groin, feet.
Good luck to you. If something works better for you, please share.
My husband is diabetic, and before he was diagnosed, he had a Parmesan cheese-like smell to his skin. Turns out it was bacteria growing in the sweat and oil glands, making hundreds of tiny little pimples under his skin. He was prescribed antibiotics,to no avail. Since getting his sugar under control, the problem is gone. maybe you have clogged oil glands,or are not removing bacteria from your body well enough when bathing. Clothes never being bleached can cause odor when worn and body heat warms them up.
Oh, and another thing; if you are a man, notice if your nighttime urination is especially stinky. My husband's was, it smelled exactly like a skunk. And turns out it was a prostate/diabetes-overloaded kidneys combination problem.
Your body needs lots of water to rid itself of odor (armpit, urine, groin and feet). If you are not on a good diet and lots of water you are going to have problems in this area. It can cause urinary tract infections, blocked glands, and liver problems just to mention a few.
It's totally from what you eat. If I eat too much refined sugar, that skunk-like smell comes out of my sweat. Increasing exercise and eating cleaner (lots of greens, healthy protein and water) makes this smell go away.
Diet and some medications will cause an odor. Garlic will do it too.
Garlic and pungent spicy and/or hot spices can also cause an overpowering odor.
Could it actually be an ammonia smell? I do know that some people with cancer, etc. can smell of ammonia. It is my understanding that this happens because of the body becoming too acidic from too much protein and/or junk food in their diet. The body has a very powerful pH balancing system and when it kicks in, the person smells like ammonia.
Any time you have odor to the body you need see a doc about it because that what you call nerve/glands.
Using an antiperspirant will make body odor worse. Your body is designed to sweat out toxins. This prevents that. In addition, no one should use these because of the chemicals in them.
Ammonia smells are actually the body's way of getting rid of extra protein. It separates one atom to change the chemical composition of the protein to ammonia which can then be released out the sweat glands.
TWO EASY SOLUTIONS:
1] Eat less protein. We're all guilty, but seriously, Google how much you need. It's a lot less than you think.
2] Mix equal parts baking soda + vinegar. Allow to 'fizzle down', then use it instead of body wash in the shower. Rinse and you should be good to go.
I can't use anti-persperants. Causes infections.I just started using fresh lemon or lime juice .It really worked.
Don't use right away after shaving under the arms or it will burn.
But I was amazed at how well it works.Cut a lemon or lime into slices. Wipe under the arms and keep remaining slices in plastic in the frig.
I had this problem after my hometown was hit by a hurricane. It was especially noticable on my clothes, as for a long while water was not available to wash them, and when I finally could do laundry again the scent stayed. A family friend who was a nurse said it was because of stress hormones. She recommended (once the water came back on) bubble baths and other relaxing activities to get my hormone levels back to normal, which must have worked, because eventually I stopped smelling like a skunk. Eventually baking soda was available to purchase again (stores were out of it for months) and adding tons of it to my laundry took care of the smell on my clothes too.
I have had the "skunk"smell, at times, since High School. Very seldom now, but in my 50's. It would be worse, if my stress about it would get worse. It smelled just like skunk.
Yea, u heard its stress before. I have this problem. Did u apply baking g soda under the arm or only clothes
Ive been eating medibles- I make my own butter and put it in cookies and brownies. Ive been smelling like a skunk ever since. I drink lots of water and eat a healthy diet but still my poop smells like a skunk.
