My boyfriend and I have had this blue nose Pitbull since he was a baby. Now he is almost 4 years old and he has bitten me twice within the past 2 years. The last bite almost caused me to lose my arm. I still want to be with my boyfriend, but I don't like the dog anymore and he's' still in the house.
His mom lives with him and she spoils the dog like a child and he stays in the house. I cared for him while he was a baby and I don't understand why he bites me when I cared for him more than my boyfriend during his younger years. And I don't understand why the police did not put him down. I want to remain in a relationship with my boyfriend, but I don't want the dog.

Sometimes if a dog is sick and the owners don't know it, it will change the dog's total personality.
Personally as a dog lover my entire life, I too would have a serious issue with any dog I've raised that turned on me. The dog now senses you're afraid of it and it will use it to it's advantage.
The fact that the attack was so brutal and you almost lost your arm is not a good sign. You know the dog better than anyone else, could the dog go to another family and be fine? Or would you worry it might bite someone else?
Do you get a long with your boyfriend's mother? If she spoils it, in that dog's eyes, she is it's master.
How did your boyfriend react to the attack? If it comes down to you or the dog and your boyfriend chooses the dog, don't you waste one tear on him and move on.
No matter what happened that caused the attack the key question is, how bad the attack was.
If you are so deeply in love with your boyfriend that you don't mind putting yourself at risk, buy a can of mace and keep it on you at all times. You may not be so lucky next time.
Lots of people get bitten but what you went through was so much more than a bite.
Listen to your conscience. It is perfectly normal to be afraid of the dog after what you've been through. That dog can smell the fear on you, long before you even walk into the room.
It would be a great help to know why? Some dogs just don't like anyone near their food bowls, bones etc but even so there's a big difference in being bitten verses almost losing your arm.
It is so hard to say what may have caused this dog to bite you. There is a lot of very irresponsible breeding with pits. Too bad, it has been a great breed and I am sure many still are. You could take a chance trying this or that, but it seems to me the stakes are too high. They would be for me. If your boyfriend has made no effort to protect you by getting rid of the dog, you need to have a tough talk with him.
I have a 3 year old blue nose. Take yours to a Vet sounds like he may be in pain. Mine had a total change in behavior a few months back. After raising him from 5 weeks old. I all most gave up on him. My last option was to take him to a Vet an ask for any help they could give me. They found him to be in pain from arthristis at this young age. So now he is being treated for this an he is back to his sweet self again. A dog will show signs of aggression when they are hurting.
Try a homeopath. Oftentimes when a dog is vaccinated it can turn aggressive. Google it. and you will see. He may not be feeling well. Has the dog had any Rimadyl or its generics? Very bad medicine. Can cause aggression. Rimadyl is 36% of the reports to FDA for bad medicinal reactions A homeopath has remedies for problems with dogs needing calmed, dogs damaged from bad meds and vaccines.
