The last time I used the machine everything worked fine, but now the paddles won't turn when the cycle begins. I can turn them by hand; no problem. How can I fix this? My machine is a Black and Decker all in one B2300.
Thanks.

Your problem could be a broken or thrown drive belt on your machine. Check your drive belt by unplugging your machine, turning it on its side, and use a screwdriver to take out the screws on the bottom panel. Look for the belt that runs between two pulleys. There should be a large pulley and a smaller one. If the belt has slipped off it should be easy to reset back on the pulley. However, if the belt is broken or has a small crack in the belt, it needs to be replaced.
I cannot get the bottom off. There are 2 screws that appear to be factory made and I'm unable to loosen them. Any ideas?
Well you just have to cut a notch in your screw driver. A metal saw will do that easy for you.
Once done those two screws a are easily removed but than it is still a pain to get to the belt:
Hope this helps...
And while at it, since you'll probably loose your new custom made screwdriver before the next time you need it: Just replace any of the "special screws" with regular ones!
I had to take out first 6 screws on the bottom, then about eight screws inside the bread maker that was holding the metal insert on to the bottom, next about another six screws that were holding the bottom metal piece to the plastic bottom and finally found out that the bell in ours was broken and wrapped tightly around the one gear all frayed. We had a spare belt for our vacuum that happened to fit perfectly with a little stretching and I am testing of the first loaf of bread now.
Hi I've tried following your instructions but there are weird screws that I have no bit for nor have I seen. Look like --a standard screw just a nun in the center so screwdriver won't sit flat and turn.
According to this blog post, there is a clip that attaches the paddle and can come loose. This person reattached it and got the machine working again.
On the black & Decker B2300 the paddle turning mechanism are held on with a ring clip...one day I found one of the mixing paddles wasn't turning. I stopped the machine and had a look at the underneath of the bread pan and then in the base where the mixer joins to the machine...
Sounds like it could be the belt but you may have to replace it. These are pretty simple machines and only a few screws have to be removed to see if that is your problem.

This is a custom screw to prevent you from repairing the machine yourself. You could notch out a flat head screwdriver with a hacksaw. or toss the Black and Decker in the garbage and never buy their appliances again. It is a dirty trick done by many manufacturers these days.
I just had this happen with our trusty Black and Decker Bread Maker. I unscrewed the bottom panel and exposed the belt and drive wheels. The nut on the large drive wheel had become loose causing the wheel to slip. I tightend the nut and it works like a charm...again!
