I am a bleached blond African American. Can I use Clairol Shimmer Lights conditioning shampoo to take the dull yellow out?

Hello!
The answer to your question depends on how high the color was lifted from your hair originally. If your hair was white or nearly so when it was lifted, Shimmer Lights may neutralize the yellow. Even if it doesn't there will be no harm done. Purchase the smallest size to try for results before you make a bigger investment, and remember it takes a few applications for results. If the hair was fairly yellow, like the shade of butter or a bit more yellow, or if Shimmer Lights doesn't really work, you can neutralize the yellow with a lavender or violet based toner.
A toner is basically a hair color which kind of directs your hair toward the desired color, in your case a neutral blonde with no yellow or red. A toner is more intensely colored than Shimmer Lights and is processed similar to a hair color, sometimes mixed with a low volume peroxide, sometimes not, depending on the brand. The color molecules are small enough to fit under the hair cuticle rather than coat it, so it gives a better, more intense, longer lasting result. If you use a toner you can then use Shimmer Lights to maintain it and help it last longer.
Now, if the result you want is white with no yellow, you may need to see a professional and have them lift it more, to remove more natural pigment, because toner and Shimmer Lights won't whiten it unless it was already white and has yellowed from heat or over time. Even then, if your natural haircolor is dark they may not be able to lift it to white without damage. My hair is very dark brown, I was a cosmetologist, and no color would lift mine past a light orange-y color without severe damage. Hope this helps, good luck!
