Mix all ingredients (except pie shells) in a large bowl. Beat really hard. Pour into pie shells and bake at 350 degrees F for 30-35 minutes or until the pie is firm and knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Since the buttermilk pie calls for 2, 9 inch pie crusts, does that mean it makes two pies?
Most buttermilk pie recipes do not have a top crust on them and only one on the bottom. It sounds like the recipe you are using is for 2 pies and not just 1.
I looked at several buttermilk pie recipes and didn't see any with a top crust. Most of the time the recipe instructions will tell you to divide the mixture evenly between 2 crusts.
