Craft: Button and Scarf Heart Shaped Wall Hanging

This is a great little craft where all supplies come from a dollar store. I recently made a craft using one half of a heart box from chocolates and wanted to come up with another for the other half.

Approximate Time: approximately 2 hours

Supplies:

• knitted scarf
• fleece
• heart box from chocolates
• strong glue such as E6000
• assorted buttons
• trim or lace for side of box
• narrow ribbon

Instructions:

1. The lid of the chocolate box was used to make this heart. Begin by carefully poking two small holes at the top where the heart indents in the center.
2. Slide ribbon through the holes and tie into a loop so you can hang the heart when finished.
3. You will need to cut strips from your scarf twice the height of the inside of the lid. The length of the strips will determine how fat your rolls come out so if you are using an adult scarf, make your first roll to see the thickness. You may be able to cut each strip in half.

4. Fold a strip in half lengthwise with the raw edge away from you. Begin to roll, being careful to line up the top edges and roll tightly.

 

 
5. Stitch end of strip to the roll. It's a good idea to bring your needle through the entire center of the roll, at least once before knotting off to secure roll closed.
6. Put finished roll in the heart and continue this process until your heart is full. You want them to be snug together to fill out the heart.
7. Rearrange the rolls until you have the color pattern you desire.
8. Take one roll at a time and pour glue into its spot in the heart. Put a pin temporarily in it so you will know that it has been glued. Continue this process until they are all glued in. You can put a piece of cardboard on top of the rolls and secure with rubber bands around the heart until dry. This will help rolls dry evenly.

9. Use a knitting needle or pen cap and push the center in just a little on one roll. You want to make a slight indentation for the button to sit evenly.
10. Glue a button in the center of each roll. Photos for demonstration only, buttons are glued on after rolls glued into box.

 

 
11. Choose your trim for the side of the heart. The one used here is lace with pearls on top.
12. Put glue along the side edge and adhere your trim to it. Allow to dry well.
