Like most of you, I have noticed the huge jump in prices at the grocery store. I have a trick to save money on chicken that I will share.
If you buy chicken in the regular meat case, it contains (usually) the meat, but it is covered with the skin and bones. Usually we remove the skin and the bones we don't eat. So, the price per pound, includes what we don't eat. But, if you go over to the frozen food section, you can buy a bulk bag of skinless chicken breasts (no bones) for as low as a dollar a pound when on sale. I have several 8 lb bags in my freezer that I bought for $8 each. I paid only for what we eat, the meat. When it is this price, I stock up.

I buy chicken like this, also buy hamburger patties in the frozen food section. Its usually cheaper than purchasing ground beef in the meat department.
I've never seen any meat at a dollar a pound.
I live in Ohio and never have I seen boneless, skinless chicken breast at $1/#. I don't mind at all buying it with the skin and bone on. It only takes a minute to remove the skin and the bones make awesome, flavorful, rich broth that I freeze.
I live in a suburb just outside of Chicago I guess you'd call me spoiled because I've been buying chicken quarters for .59/lb. until now. Several of the lower priced stores are being pushed out of business by this economy.
Today I went to Jewel food store where their price for chicken quarters last week was $1.59/lb. Today it's $1.79/lb! Enough is enough. I found a meat packing company in Chicago where I can still buy chicken for $.59/lb. Guess I'll be buying a freezer soon.
I buy frozen chicken for $1.00 a pound too. I am in Missouri. I am assuming mom-from-missouri is from this area too because of her screen name. We have a lot of chicken processing plants in our state, that could be the reason why the prices are so low.
