Candle of Vacation Memories

A candle decorated with vacation memorabilia.
Do you never know what to do with those sea shells, rocks, stones, or pretty flowers collected while on a vacation trip or an outing? Here is an idea which preserves them and brings back memories. While vacationing on the island of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, I had fun gathering flowers and shells. This is how I preserved my vacation memories.

Here is an idea which preserves them and brings back memories. While vacationing on the island of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, I had fun gathering flowers and shells. This is how I preserved my vacation memories.

Total Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 1

Supplies:

  • 1 candle
  • memorabilia
  • craft glue
  • mod podge
  • paint brush
  • glaze or brush on mod podge

Steps:

  1. Choose desired size of candle and color based on memorabilia. Pictured here are dried flowers, a garnet I found in Nevada, an agate from the beach.
  2. Glueing a ribbon to the bottom of a white candle.

A collection of souvenirs saved from a vacation.

  3. Arrange the memorabilia onto the candle, gluing each piece as you go with craft glue. Glue a few at a time, placing candle on its side. When dry, continue the process. After everything has had a chance to dry, using a paint brush, paint mod podge over the project. Let dry. Instead of mod podge, you can use half glue and half water mixture to seal and protect the items.
  4. Gluing souvenirs to a white candle.

  5. Enjoy the candle, but don't burn it otherwise you will lose all of your vacation memories! And its better to show them off rather than have them sitting in a box somewhere.

That's a pretty way to remember past vacations.

If you burned the candle down just a little ways, you could put a battery operated tealight in it. That way, it would work as a candle too.
