My car heater works, but only on the driver's side. The passenger's side only blows cold air. What is the problem?

This may be a dumb question, do you have small kids that stuck something in the vent causing a blockage or damage? I ask because this happened to a family member and there was a similar issue. If I remember right, when the mechanic pulled out whoever it was, can't remember now...some toy doodad, it was all better!
If not, you don't mention the make, model or year of the car, so it would be hard to give specifics.
Heating and cooling things are best left to the pros anyhow!! They are tricky and complicated!

It could be the blend door actuator. YouTube videos can help you fix it, but it seems you have to have some familiarity with cars.
It is possible the vent to the passenger side has broken loose and no warm air is going that way. The vent would be sucking cold air from under the dash or even from under the hood.
Why don't you take your car to one of your local auto parts stores - AutoZone, Advance, CarQuest, NAPA - and ask them to look at it for you. I have found many of these people very helpful but if you meet someone that is not so accommodating, then move on to the next store.
Google auto parts stores with your zip code but do not call on the phone as this will be unproductive.
