Car Transmission Problems?

I have a 1998 Honda Civic and my car runs and then stops, but the car is still on. It does not move forward or backwards. I took it to my mechanic and he said that it's the transmission. When it warms up it stops and doesn't shift gears. Can it be something else? Thanks.

If your mechanic says the problem is the transmission, then you most probably have your (unfortunately expensive) answer. You can take the car to another mechanic for another opinion. However, it appears your decision is to repair the Civic or consider another car.
