Stir together the sugar, boiling water, and cream of tartar. Boil slowly until it turns a light brown. Remove from the fire and add butter or margarine and soda. Pour over popped corn. Set pan over low heat and stir until corn is well covered.

Here is another recipe for carmel corn--microwave easy.
1 cup brn sugar
1/4 cup white corn syrup
1 stick margarine
1/2 tsp salt
Microwave on Hi for 2 minutes, Stir
Microwave on Hi for 3 minutes, stirring after each of these 3 minutes.
Add 1 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp baking soda. Stir well, but not too much.
Have 16 cups of popped corn in large brown grocery bag that has been sprayed with PAM.
