I think playing Canasta everyday for the past 2 years has been the main cause of tendonitis in my wrist. After the doctor gave me a brace to wear, it was hard for me to hold the cards and continue playing. I thought I would have to quit.
My husband surprised me by making a card holder. I can play cards with my brace on.
To make it, he used a 2X4 and sawed 3 grooves lengthwise across the board, slanted a little with the grooves increasing in depth from back to front so the cards can be easily seen. The holder is 10 1/4 inches long. Using his wood burner, he decorated it and put felt padding on the bottom. He also made another one which is same concept, a little longer and not as wide. Our daughter uses that one.
We have enjoyed using our card holders, which were made out of scrap wood, and we will be using them from now on when playing cards.
