Caring for a 4 Week Old Puppy?

My mom's coworker was giving away puppies ASAP because he couldn't tend to the 6 puppies his dog gave birth to. He gave one to me 2 days ago and the puppy is only around 4 weeks old. He told me that the puppy liked eating rice with soup and so far he is eating the food we give him along with some dog food soaked in water (according to the people in the pet shop so that the puppy could consume it since it will become soft). I'm feeling guilty that he (the puppy) might be having a hard time without his mom. He loves to play every day after he eat, but when it's night time, he gets to sleep for a few hours, but when he wakes up he starts whining then he stops to sleep again and it just repeats. The option of giving him back to the previous owner is not applicable because the guy already said so. Can you give me ideas to soothe him?

Talk to your vet and get his/her expert advice on this as weaning pups early can present some challenges and you want to have a long and happy life together.

In the short term until you can be seen, my pup was a little older than yours when I got her, but I used to keep a wind up alarm clock, the kind that ticked, outside the crate but close enough she could hear it. It seemed to soothe her. Prayers for all! Enjoy your fur baby!!

The dog seems to be eating with what you're feeding him. You might want to add some mother's milk that you can make at home. it is a simple recipe and only takes 2 egg whites, 1 tablespoon of mayo, 1 yogurt no sugar or flavor added, 1 3/4 boiled water, and 1 can condensed milk with no sure. Mix this all up in a mixing bowl. Serve this to the dog 2 to 3 times a day. You can even add this to the dry dog food to help him eat.

You'll need to heat this in the microwave to warm it up. and it can stay in your refrigerator for up to a week. Normally, with one dog it should lat 3 to 5 days.
At night when the puppy sleeps, I'd get him a fuzzy stuffed animal to cuddle next to and put down a blanket or old towel for him to lay on. He is missing the warmth of his brothers and sisters and is more than likely getting cold or hungry during the middle of the night. You might need to give him a bit of warm milk to help him go back to sleep.

I would ask the vet what to do.

One of the ideas that I had regarding osur puppy that was finicky and couldn't sleep was to have a noise maker that mimics a heartbeat. One of the things that I had used before was a stuffed teddy bear that had a a heartbeat sound that came with it.

It was very useful because it put the puppy at ease and mimic the mother's heartbeat from when she was pregnant. It really really helped our puppy and maybe you can give this a try and see if that would help.

This puppy is way too young to be away from mom. No sooner than 8 weeks is preferred. This pup needs to be on a canine milk replacer formula from vet or pet store. Baby will not get adequate nutrition from what you are feeding. No RAW food Also suggest to backyard breeder to get mom spayed immediately

There is a product called a snuggle puppy that as a heartbeat and heating packs that can be used for a puppy. They cost somewhere around $40, so not cheap.

I believe you can get them from Chewy.com People that have used them swear by them.
